Please find below the results of the best ETL tool from a developer's perspective survey carried out between 1st Nov 2016 till 16th Dec 2016. Survey link was shared on LinkedIn and on this site.

Survey Result Analysis

  • 425 responses were collected through the survey between 1st Nov 2016 and 16th Dec 2016.
  • Informatica is the most popular and the best ETL Tool from a developer's perspective based on the survey results.
  • Out of those respondents who have experience in multiple tools including both DataStage and Informatica, 20% consider DataStage as the best and 46% consider Informatica as the best ETL tool.
  • Out of those respondents who have experience in multiple tools including  Abinitio, Datastage and Informatica, 18% consider Abinitio as the best, 18% consider Datastage as the best and 40% consider Informatica as the best.
  • Out of those respondents who have experience in multiple tools including  Datastage, Informatica and SSIS,  15.6% consider DataStage as the best, 41% consider Informatica as the best and 12.5% consider SSIS as the best ETL tool.
  • Out of those respondents who have experience in multiple tools including both PDI and Talend, 17% consider PDI as the best and 23% consider Talend as the best ETL tool.
  • Those who selected the option "other" have mentioned these tools

                              This is really just a survey of what tools are being used, not really which tool is 'best'. Note that the pattern of 'best' tool exactly follows the pattern of usage.

                                Thanks for the comment, Please check the Survey Result Analysis part too just in case you missed it. If possible, See if you can talk to people who have used multiple ETL Tools and ask them which one they consider is the best from a developer's perspective and if possible share the results. All of us in DWBI will benefit. I don't consider myself as an authority on these topics to say something is best or not, I am just sharing the results without any bias. Remember its an independent survey with no sponsors.

                            BI Architect course and BI Tool question

                            Received two questions, 1 through LinkedIn and other through blogger. Sharing details of Q&A here for the benefit of wider audience. Question 1:  I want to start with a career in BI, and I am planning to get trained in it. The institute covers MSSQL, Power BI, MSBI, Tableau desktop 10, Informatica developer and admin, Azure data factory, SQL DBA, QLIK sense, Data warehousing. Is this all that is needed? Reply : Regarding getting into BI, the best way is to get into a team where you can learn from experienced people in the team. Regarding courses, just based on the list, that's quite a lot for a training, but it depends on what exactly is provided as part of the training. Need more details about the training.
