7th year of IBI starts today

Completed 6 years of IBI and started 7th year of IBI, hopefully continuing it forever.

3 years of IBI

This week (on 19th Feb 2020) I completed 3 years of IBI. To celebrate it I have created a Dashboard in Google Data Studio. So from now on instead of using the charts in the Google Sheets I will use the Dashboard. Google Data Studio is more user friendly and mobile friendly too, also it comes with easy to use filters and drill down/up capabilities. PDF version of the first 2 pages of the shareable dashboard is attached below. I am happy to share the first 2 pages of the IBI Dashboard, reach out to me if you would like to get the Google Data Studio IBI dashboard. Once you get the dashboard (without my data of course) you can make a copy of it and point it to your IBI data (assuming you have started), add more charts, pages, etc., and use it for your benefit. Like with every year, this IBI year too I have learnt a lot about myself, made new mistakes, changed several things about me. The benefits of IBI is much more than we can think of. Use it to know it. And what are some of the...

At least 3 people have started IBI this year

Image
Very happy to know that at least 3 people, whom I know (and have informed me), have started with IBI  (Individual Business Intelligence) from 1st Jan 2020. One is a close friend and ex-Wirecard who has started with 20+ data points, another is a colleague who would like to capture data and do predictive analytics using his data and check if his predictions comes true, and the 3rd one is my 6 year old son with his mama's help who has started capturing various data points including how many times he cried in a day, how many times he fought, how much time he spent learning something, etc. All the best wishes to 3 of them. I am sure more people will realize the benefits of IBI.  To create awareness about IBI I plan to introduce IBI in different languages that I speak. I have started the series with one introductory video in Kannada language. Please find it below, and please share it with friends and family who speak Kannada. Goal is to create as much awareness, including those,...

1000 days of Individual BI

Image
For those who have been following my IBI (Individual Business Intelligence or Individual BI) journey I am very happy to announce that I have completed more than 1000 days of data capture. On 15th November, 2019 I completed 1000 days. I had started capturing data from 19th Feb 2017. Based on the analysis of own data I have found some interesting patterns, learnt a lot about myself, stopped myself from doing the same mistakes again, noticed changes in patterns, etc. The benefits that I get from Individual BI are way too many. And therefore I will definitely continue IBI as long as I am able to do it. I will be happy to conduct a session based on demand. Let me know. Some of the charts are provided below to give you an idea of the possibilities with own data captured in a structured way consciously. Gaps in the above chart are because there was no weighing scale on those days or weight was not measured on those days.

Before and Beyond Data Visualization

Image
Presenting at EU DataViz 2019, Luxembourg on 12th November was such an honour. Thanks to the Publication Office of the European Union for the opportunity. It was a great experience both in listening to other inspiring speakers and also to present the topic of "Before and beyond data visualization". In my talk, I used two examples; Individual Business Intelligence (Individual BI or IBI) and PublicBI EUProc solutions to talk about before and beyond data visualization sections respectively. It was interesting to note that there were many people who were interested in the IBI example than I had expected, and some also had questions about data security. If any organizations (companies, colleges, etc,) would like me to present the topic of Individual BI at their premises I will be more than happy to do that.  My slides are attached below, if there are problems with the pages below, use this link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vll-ugWPh6MoCwxqDj3Eo1d6BkcR...

Value of data

Image
On 15th of November, 2019 I completed 1000 days of Individual Business Intelligence (Individual BI or IBI).  Everybody says data is an asset. I say, the data I have about myself is priceless. But, I was just wondering  if I were to estimate the price of the data I have collected over last 1000+ days, how much would it be worth? I have 104 data points (ideas, mistakes, dreams, health, work, happy days, etc.) captured for over 1000 days. Let's consider 1 EUR per data point.  So 104000 EUR Time spent in filling IBI data capture sheet everyday until now (1014 days) = 110.8 hours So around 11000 EUR (assuming 100 EUR per hour) Time spent in analyzing data until now (1014) = 76.5 hours So around 7600 EUR  So in total it is minimum worth 104K+ 11K+ 7.6K = 122600 EUR Would I sell my data? I don't think so. Would I share my data for a good cause? May be some of it.  I think if data is an asset, then we sh...

2 years of IBI

Image
It's been over 2 years that I have started IBI . A small subset of the results is shared below (charts) with an intention to create awareness about IBI. One of my personal objectives for this year is to create awareness about IBI among high school and university students.  So if any of you have connections with academic world and would like me to present the IBI concept, tools, my experience and learning from it, I would be glad to present. Almost everyone today, especially data professionals, preach that organizations should be data-driven, however, how many of the data professionals are themselves  data-driven individuals ? How many of us put in any effort in capturing and accumulating our own data in a way it can be used for self-discovery? Shouldn't we practice what we preach? We all agree that if we don't measure something, it can't be improved. Why don't we measure ourselves? Don't we want to improve? On 19th Feb 2019 I completed 2 years of capturi...

New Year Resolution - Starting with IBI?

Image
A few people who have attended my presentations this year and became aware of the concept of IBI  (Individual Business Intelligence) and a few people with whom I have been in contact this year have shared their interest to start with IBI starting from 2019 or have already started. It feels nice to get feedback like below.  " I attended your presentation at the publication office. I just read your article on IBI and I love your idea."   -   Message in LinkedIn by a senior professional who attended my presentation of PublicBI BI solution for EU Public Procurement at the Publication Office of the European Union, Luxembourg. This is really great that people have started it or plan to start.  I wish you all the best. For those who are still not sure what IBI is and how to use it, below links should be useful. Basically in this post I am placing all the important IBI links in one post in a sequence so it is easy for people to find and understand.  ...

500 Days of IBI

Image
For all those people who are following my blog, especially on the IBI topic, I am happy to announce that I have now completed 500 days of data capture. For all posts related to IBI see  IBI posts . Just by being disciplined enough to capture the data for 500 days and the fact the I managed to do it and still continue doing it, there is some sense of achievement even though nothing is achieved.  So today I spent some time in data analysis, reflected upon the days that went by using data. Went through the details of the mistakes that I have made, the days I was not happy, etc., to understand if there is a recurring pattern and to tell myself that I shouldn't repeat those. I also made some changes to the data capture template and included new charts too.  I have now added a "Year" column in the data capture template because now I have data for more than a year.  With this addition there is possibility to compare same months across years and also to compare year...

Companies, political parties and others are misusing your data. Have you thought about using your own data?

Most of us, especially those in BI and related professions always knew that companies are using our data. And now it's all over the news about how companies, even political parties are misusing our data. What does this mean? It's very evident that your personal data has lot of value and that's why companies and others are trying their best to get their hands on it, sometimes even without your active consent. On one side, they are able to see value in your data. They are using your personal data for their benefit. And on the other side, most of us as individuals are not even able to see the value in our own data, our individual data. We think data is an asset only for companies and not for individuals, and so we don't even attempt to capture our own data, mostly because of lack of awareness about the possibilities and lack of know-how of data capturing and data analysis.  To create awareness about the possibilities, I will be conducting a free public webinar about I...

IndividualBI New Templates and Video

Image
IBI Templates The IndividualBI or IBI Template has been updated recently, I have now included 3 new sheets in the template, the 3 new sheets are "Pivot Table", "Charts" and "Max and Min" sheets. For those who are not familiar with analyzing data, creating pivot tables, creating charts etc these sheets should help to get you started with analyzing and visualizing your data. Also, additionally I have now made two versions of the template, Google Sheet version and MS Excel version. I hope this helps a lot of people.  Google Sheet version can be downloaded from here : Individual BI Google Sheet Version Excel version can be downloaded from here :  IndividualBI Excel Version  I have tried to ensure that there are no errors in the formula, calculations etc, however as no one else has reviewed it there are chances that there are some mistakes/errors. If you find any errors please bring it to my notice and I will try to correct...

Results of Data Analysis after 1 Year of IBI

Image
It's 1 year now (exactly 370 days) that I started using Individual Business Intelligence (IBI), I started it on 19th February 2017. I wanted a memorable day to start capturing data after publishing the article about IBI on 5th February 2017. As my mom's birthday is on 19th Feb I decided to start capturing data about myself from 19th Feb 2017 onwards.  Today I have analyzed the data that I have captured about myself for dates starting from 19th Feb 2017 till yesterday (24th Feb 2018), and below are the glimpses of the results. My journey from "not knowing" to "Knowing" has started.  My only intention to publish this information is to create awareness about the possibilities that open up when we capture our own data. I would like people to capture their own data for their  own benefit.  This year has been one of its kind. No, I haven't achieved anything, no success stories to brag on, but I have put my effort in a way I have never ever done in...

Everyone is talking about Big Data and Artificial Intelligence

Everyone is talking about big data, I would like to talk about your data. Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, I would like to talk about Individual Business Intelligence .  There is so much focus on big data and artificial intelligence these days. People are not thinking about their own data. How many of us actually know that we can improve as an individual using our own data? How many of us consciously collect our own data? We want the machines to be smart, so  we feed it with data to learn from data (machine learning), the more good data it gets, the better it becomes, why are we not applying the same principle on our minds? Shouldn't we feed our minds with as much good data as possible so that it can learn from data? Give it a thought. Give IBI a try. Try it for 41 days and see the changes for yourself.

Idea for new year resolution - IBI

Image
In case anyone is looking for an idea for new year's resolution, I would like to suggest IBI (Individual Business Intelligence). You probably have tried to know yourself socially, religiously, spiritually, etc., and probably failed. Give a try to know yourself better factually with IBI.  For the past 313 days I have spent around 5 to 7 minutes every single day to capture data (quantitative and qualitative) about me, range of data points (dreams, ideas, movie time, work hours, family time, health, etc.) that I think are important to me.  Have I made lot of money with this? No, in fact I make 40% less money than I used to make after I switched to part-time work.  If money is the only thing that drives you, this won't make much sense.  I have this feeling that everything is connected but we don't see the connections, the deeper we go, the more connections we will see.  I don't want to bore you with my personal data, but at the same time I want to creat...

IBI webinar preparation and invite

How many ideas? How many of them materialized? How many happy days? How many dreams? and many more questions like these. Individual Business Intelligence (IBI) answers (or at least tries to answer) all of these with real data. In preparation for tomorrow's free webinar on IBI , I started carrying out some basic data analysis and visualization  on the  6+ months data (own and self accumulated data). While sharing of results is not required I have still shared it to give an idea about possibilities. Some results are published here in the IBI forum . Those interested to know more about IndividualBI please join the live webinar tomorrow (refer PublicBI for details on webinar ). Searching for full article about IBI?  see IBI
